Winter X-Games Update: Shaun White Doesn't Make Slopestyle!

The Winter X-Games have been bringing entertainment to many extreme sport junkies for years.  However, today Shaun White failed to deliver like he usually does.  Although Shaun White made the finals in the Men's Superpipe last night, he was unable to impress the judges in the Men's Slopestyle Qualifiers.  The judges this year were unbelievably harsh this year.  The only people that moved on to the next round threw down double corks 1260's or other crazy tricks.  The thing that disappointed me and many other snowboarding fans worldwide was that he simply gave up on his final run.  He was sitting at 12th before he dropped in to his 3rd and final run.  Shaun had won medals in the Men's Slopestyle 8 out of the last 9 times he competed at the X-Games.  The reason he did not win a medal one of the years was because he had a knee injury that put him at an extreme disadvantage.  Being perfectly in shape with no injuries, everybody was expecting him to put everything he had out on the line.  However, he did not do anything impressive the entire run.  When interviewed at the bottom of the run, he said that he was inspired to learn new tricks now and was very excited at the level of competition that he now faced in snowboarding.  Did he simply give up because he would have been embarrassed if it looked like he gave it his all but could not impress the judges enough?  If he had given it his all and did not qualify people would question him as the best snowboarder in the sport.  I will upload the video of his final run when it is up on youtube.  The average age of the finalists is around 18 years of age.  In 1st - an 18 year old, in 2nd - a 23 year old, and in 3rd - a 17 year old.  The snowboarding competition is getting younger and they are truly pushing the limits.  Runs that would have gotten scores in the 90s now end up in the 70s.  I cannot wait to see how much snowboarding will develop in the next few years as more and more competitors push the boundaries.
